Arkadius is seating system for laCividina that redefines the boundary between upholstered furniture and architecture. The project stems from a specific observation: outdoor seating systems often lack a clear structural identity, whilst indoor sofas are traditionally defined by their spatial presence. Arkadius unites these two worlds into a hybrid object, conceived from the outset to inhabit both indoor and outdoor spaces with the same formal coherence.
The character of the design is defined by the rhythm of the vertical wooden elements that run along the backrests and armrests: a measured, understated colonnade that frames the upholstered modules, balancing structure and softness. This is not a decorative detail, but the defining feature of the entire system — capable of creating visual order, textural depth and a presence that shifts with the light throughout the day. For indoor settings, this structure is crafted from ash wood, chosen for its elegant grain and its ability to convey warmth and solidity. In the outdoor version, laCividina introduces iroko wood, naturally weather-resistant and presented with an interlacing pattern that adds textural depth and evokes a tradition of craftsmanship reinterpreted in a contemporary key.
Within this architectural framework, the upholstered volumes appear almost suspended: generous cushions that invite prolonged relaxation, welcoming without being excessive. The proportions are designed to encourage relaxed postures in both private and communal settings, with a palette of fabrics and materials calibrated to natural, dusty and timeless shades.
