In 2013, after having completed their degrees at the IUAV University in Venice and the ECAL in Lausanne, Giorgia Zanellato and Daniele Bortotto founded the Zanellato/Bortotto studio, based in Treviso. In the same year, they presented their first project at the Salone Satellite in Milan. The collection, entitled “Acqua Alta”, pays homage to Venice. This moment marked the beginning of their longstanding, constant research into the relationship between places and the passing of time, a connection analysed through the reinterpretation of traditional handcrafted techniques.
The studio’s work include product design, limited editions for design galleries, creative direction for companies, and interior design projects. The studio actively collaborates with Italian and international companies.
The works signed by Zanellato/Bortotto have been exhibited in numerous galleries and institutions, such as the MAXXI in Rome, the Design Museum of the Triennale in Milan, the Poldi Pezzoli Museum in Milan, Somerset House and The Aram Gallery in London.
In 2015, Giorgia and Daniele were named Young Talent of the Year by “Elle Decor Italia”. In 2016, they received the NYXxDESIGN award – established by the American magazine “Interior Design” – and the Red Dot Design Award for the “Storie” project for Cedit. In 2018, they were awarded the prestigious Good Design Award for the Bix chair, designed for B-Line. In 2021, the “Marble Patterns” project conceived for Del Savio 1910 was selected for the ADI Design Index.
“AD Italia”, in 2023, included them in the AD100, a selection of one hundred names among architects, designers and interior decorators who are shaping the international creative scene.
In 2023, “Elle Decor Italia” named them Designers of the Year for the annual Edida award, Elle Deco International Design Award. Additionally, in 2022, they curated the exhibition “Tracing Venice” for Homo Faber, on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice. In 2023, they won the competition “Re-enchanting the Villa Medici” for the refurbishment of the guest rooms at the French Academy in Rome.
